With the volume of legislative proposals increasing each year, a major challenge is simply getting the attention of elected officials. One way to accomplish this is to establish a coalition of organizations or individuals around a single issue. This is often the best way to achieve success with a legislative initiative, in other words, to get a bill passed by the legislature and signed by the Governor.
Popham and Andryszak lawyers have been successful in establishing and guiding coalitions for the benefit of their clients. Once an issue is identified and a position established, we assist the client in recruiting other organizations to create a coalition. Such coalitions, formed for the specific purpose of advancing a specific legislative initiative, are often more effective than either an individual entity or a trade association. When combined with the additional tools of grassroots campaigns, in which individuals contact legislators directly with a coalition message, and with public relations campaigns, which seek to influence legislative opinion through media coverage and, most recently, through the Internet, coalitions have proven to be effective vehicles to reach a particular legislative goal.
